What Barelyy reads

Barelyy reads the date and the location saved with each photo in your library, and shows your photos inside the app. It does this on your phone. Your photos never leave your phone.

How matching works

Every match is worked out on your phone, against a database of public events that ships inside the app. No photo, date or location is sent to a server to do this.

What is kept on your phone

So it does not have to read your whole library again, Barelyy keeps a list of the dates and locations it has already read. The list stays on your phone and is removed when you delete the app.

No account

There is no account and no sign-in. Barelyy does not collect your name, email address, contacts or advertising identifier, and there are no analytics or advertising tools in the app.

Comparing with a friend

If you choose to compare, Barelyy shows a code that lists the events you were near. Anyone you give it to can see which events those were, and so roughly where you were on those days. Nothing is sent unless you share the code yourself.

Suggesting a place

If you suggest a place, Barelyy prepares a message with your location rounded to about 1 km, the number of photos taken there, and what you type. It is sent only when you send it.

Purchases

Purchases are handled by Apple. Barelyy receives confirmation of a purchase and nothing about your payment.

Portraits in the app come from Wikimedia Commons and carry their photographers’ credits and licences.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be in the app before it applies.
